Update on Mason and exciting news from Lindsay…
Most, if not all, of you who actually read our blog are aware of Mason’s allergy conditions. We took him to see the specialists yesterday down at Cincy Children’s and instead of reposting everything already written on our other site, I’ll just send you to www.myallergykid.com to read his update. We started this site to help spread the word on food allergies and keep everyone updated on Mason.
In news from me… I haven’t shared this with many people, but I am going to be an egg donor! We started the process last fall and I have finally completed all the written, physical and mental evaluations and I’ve been matched with a recipient couple. We’re doing this through the Institute of Reproductive Health here in Cincinnati. This is an amazing place that gives people who are struggling to have children an opportunity to do so and make their parenting dreams come true. And I’m so happy to be a part of that. Basically, my recipient is unable to produce eggs of her own for whatever reason, so she will use mine! I’ll go through fertility treatments to make my egg production higher than usual to ensure a successful retrieval. They will remove my egg through a surgical procedure, fertilize the egg with her husband’s sperm and then place it in her uterus so she will hopefully be able to carry the baby to term and deliver.
I get asked about how I feel about giving away my eggs and this is my answer: I am overjoyed to do so. Parenting is everything to me and I would gladly give of myself so that others who so desire to be parents can do so. It may be my egg, but in NO way is it “my” child. So much bonding happens during the pregnancy/delivery process that the fact that it is the recipients husband’s sperm and her carrying the baby, makes it THEIRS. I don’t know their name or location and know nothing other than their physical characteristics as well as a few personality characteristics. I know that they are musical and wanted a donor who was musical and had strawberry blond hair as a child. This is such an amazing process and I’m so thrilled to be able to help this couple. It truly and honestly makes me SO happy that we have the technology to make people’s dreams come true.
I’ll start my fertility medication in April (which consists of daily shots!) and then my eggs will be retrieved in May. I’ll keep you posted on the process and how things are going!
