Not the best of days…

Yesterday was a rough one, to say the least. Let’s recap, shall we?

11:15am: We arrive at Children’s Hospital for Mason’s biannual allergy checkup. We get to the room only to wait 40 minutes for the nurse to come in. Now I usually love Children’s. They are one of the best and most efficient doctor’s facilities I’ve ever been to. Not today. And it’s not like they were particularly busy. Our doc only had 3 patient rooms open, only 2 of which had patients. So I explain to the nurse about Mason’s recent reactions and ER trips due to new foods introduced and express my need for concern and interest in testing him for these new foods. Not a problem. She writes it all down, leaves and tells me the doc “will be right with us”. Forty-five minutes after the nurse left he room, I impatiently start walking the halls trying to get our docs attention who I have seen the entire time through the door that she is sitting talking to her secretary and typing on her computer ever so nonchalantly. I was clearly annoyed. Seeing my annoyance, she comes over to me and says “oh, sorry I’m so slow today”. She comes into the room where I have to repeat EVERYTHING I just told the nurse nearly an hour ago. Seriously, what is the point of the nurse in this situation anyway?! She orders blood work, tells me Mason is too big for his epi-pen jr. and needs the adult size and goes on her merry way. We seriously waited over an hour and half to talk to her for 5 minutes? Fantastic. So we get the blood work and leave. I must note: Mason FREAKED out at having his weight and height taken. Blood draw? No problem whatsoever. My child is weird.

2:30pm: We’re finally home and after a late lunch, I have to kiss my Sheba goodbye. In light of recent tests, we find that Mason is severely allergic to dogs and for the second time in 13 months, I have to say goodbye to a dog that I love. It’s heartbreaking to pack all of her stuff up, see how happy she is to go on a car ride, unknowingly to a place she will hate. Dave loads her into the car and drives the 1.5 hours to Shelbyville, Indiana to take her to a foster home for Weimaraners. It was sad to say the least. And it’s torture when your kids wake up from nap time to find the dog gone and watch them wander around the house calling her name and wondering where she went. We had to put our son over the love we have for our dog, and that was not the difficult decision. The difficulty came in the tremors and fear in her eyes when she was left somewhere new.

5:30pm: Soccer practice. This week didn’t go as well as last week. Mason stepped onto the field and proceeded to cry and refused to play. And why? Because he wanted his brother to play too. Now, I love their brotherly love for one another, but it’s rather embarrassing for your kid to be “that kid”. Ugh, it was awful. So Mason refuses to play and I knew this wasn’t going to get any better. With Brody’s team and Mason’s team sharing the field and them seeing each other the entire time, I know it’s going to be like this every week. I talk to Brody’s coach and ask if Mason can play on the 2s team, b/c it’s not as competitive and Brody would for sure get trampled on the 3s/4s team being just a few days shy of 2. Not a problem, and apparently this isn’t the first set of brothers to want to play together. She says it happens every session. So maybe next week we’ll have better luck since they boys will get to play together.

The night at least ended well with dinner at the mall and a trip to Bass Pro to see the fishies. Free and fun entertainment is fantastic. That place is total amusement to the boys.

Today was a better day. I got to go shopping for my dress to wear to Miami’s Bicentennial Ball next month. What better way to follow up a terrible day with a little retail therapy? I am so excited. It should be a great evening away!
