Why I Love Winter

*Insert Sarcasm* Who am I kidding? I’ll be honest. I hate winter. I don’t like to use the word hate very often, but really, truly and honestly, I HATE winter. If it weren’t for the fact that all my family and my in-laws were within walking distance from my house, I would move the heck out of Ohio. As far south as I could go and still be on US soil…that’s where I’d go.

I don’t like the cold, I don’t like the snow, I don’t like coats or gloves or hats. I don’t like sleet and I don’t like lots of darkness. I don’t like fireplaces, I don’t enjoy wrapping myself in a blanket on the couch to stay warm. I don’t like colds that last for months (look back to previous posts on that one!), I don’t like stomach viruses, I don’t like excess doctor trips for the illnesses winter brings.

I love warm weather, sunny skies, a warm summer rain, shorts, and long daylight hours. Winter makes me, well…depressed. It’s just terrible and I can see absolutely no joy in it whatsoever. It’s cold, dark and gray. Gross.

And what is worse than winter itself? Having a birthday in the winter. Brody turns two tomorrow. Many weeks ago, I booked his birthday party for tonight, January 27th. It would figure that the ONLY day all winter it would decide to dump a blizzard of snow, sleet and ice on top of us would be the day of my sweet baby boy’s party. Do you know what a pain in the butt it is to reschedule a party you’ve invited 15+ kids to? I’ll tell you what it’s like. It’s annoying. I spent hours on the phone today calling people, re-accepting RSVPs, blah blah blah. It’s also not easy telling 2 little boys that there is no party after all…after you’ve talked it up for days. Boo on winter in the north.

Right now it’s nasty out. Just plain nasty. The only good thing about winter are the snow days. But those don’t even apply to me now that I take classes online. Until my kids are school aged, I have nothing to like about winter.

I’m ready to pack up my belongings and head south. Spring is just around the corner, isn’t it? Please, tell me it is.

*Thus endeth my rant for today*
