here i sit

I’m sitting here in a hospital bed doped up on pain meds. This experience hasn’t been too terrible. I was expecting it to be easier and quicker, but that didn’t happen.

During surgery yesterday, they accidentally nicked my intestine and had to bring in another surgeon to repair that. Then my heart rate went crazy and decided to be irregular, then stay at about 189 beats per minute, which they didn’t like. It took 6 different anti-nausea meds in just 2 hours to finally settle my stomach post op. That was the worst feeling in the world. Well, next to waking up from surgery on the oncology floor! See, I went into this hysterectomy knowing i had 6 small tumors in my uterus. Waking up on the oncology wing was uncool! I thought they were about to bring me awful news. But the news from the lab was pleasant- no cancer. I’m on the oncology floor because it was the only place they had open beds. It was still frightening though to wake up with a doctor hovering over me with his oncology lab coat on!

Yesterday was not only filled with nausea meds, but also morphine, dilaudid and percocet. That’s a lof of high powered pain meds… especially when I had multiple doses of each. I don’t remember much of yesterday at all. Now I’m down to just the percocet which are helping tremendously.

I’ve been on clear liquids since surgery and have had no solid food since Thursday night. I’m not feeling overly hungry, but they are bringing me some toast in a few that I have to eat and keep down if I want to go home. I’m going to give it a shot because I miss my boys.

They have had a fun time with Grandma and think it’s so cool that Grandma has been spending the night at our house. Apparently they were doing fine until early this morning when Brody woke up crying for me. He’s the one I’ve been worried about since he’s such a momma’s boy, but I think having daddy home over night was helpful.

I’m waiting to see the general surgeon and my GYN so hopefully I can go home. I have 5 incisions all which look great, so nothing to worry about there.

This surgery was supposed to be outpatient, so I didn’t bring a thing with me. Luckily my mom brought me her little laptop so I’d have something to do. I’m trying to rest while I can since it’s quiet. So that’s the story of my hysterectomy!

The surgery was done by robot, and since I told my doc I was so fascinated with that concept, he made me a DVD of the procedure to watch! I can’t wait to go home and watch it!

Well, I hope this made sense, since only 30 minutes ago I took 2 more pain pills…I know this isn’t the most exciting post ever, but I’m bored…

I hope everyone enjoys their weekend!
